Tips and Tricks in Endodontics

Although root canal treatment has a 95% success rate, dentists find it hard to do most specially on teeth that are difficult to manage in terms of anatomy and with confusing diagnosis.

Arriving at the correct diagnosis plays an important role for the development of the best treatment plan and proper treatment decision. It is of high importance that the offending tooth be given the correct diagnosis and relieved the patient from the odontogenic pain. Other types of pain discomfort would mimic dental pain, thus a thorough understanding of the patient’s response to the different diagnostic tests should be analyzed.

Another cause of endodontic failure is the missed canal, thus resulting to persistence of periapical infection. Curved canals posed another problem too during biomechanical preparation.

The aim of this lecture is to give some pointers on how to arrive at the correct diagnosis, by presenting cases on how the teeth were properly diagnosed. Tips in locating and managing extra canals will also be discussed together with some tricks in treating curved canals.
